An intensive training on Classical Tibetan Language. 

Join us and learn to translate ancient texts from the Tibetan tradition. If you are already skilled you can deepen your knowledge, discuss techniques, compare with others, and train your ability in a collaborative environment inspired by the ancient practice of translating in groups.  

The training for translators from Tibetan is an initiative of the Shang Shung Institute Austria and first started in 2003. In 2018 we will have the 16th edition. 

A basic knowledge of the Tibetan syllable and grammar is required.  The students will be divided in an intermediate and an advanced group according to capacity.

Fabian Sanders

Fabian Sanders has studied Asian languages, traditions and cultures extensively. In recent years he has concentrated on teaching classical Tibetan Language at university level and for the Shang Shung Foundation. He has been a student of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu for more than twenty years. He is author of the volume "La Lingua Tibetana Classica" (Hoepli), the first classical Tibetan grammarbook in Italian.
